Chapter 1: You need to Swim

High school was an interesting time, a lot of new experiences. It was excellent and terrible at the same time. The only thing I could identify with was music at that time. I was a band kid; it was how I defined myself. I guess defining yourself leads to limiting yourself. I learned it the hard way.

I limited myself to those in the band, probably a mistake looking back. I ended up liking this girl who started to date my best friend. Instead of taking my time with things, I immediately went on to a relationship with another girl. I ended up dating this girl for two or so years.  Things went well until she was to graduate.

I was cheated on, and it hit me really hard. It may have been because she changed a lot and was going away to college. Maybe she just felt trapped, and wanted to see what time with someone else would be like. The single biggest reason that I think people cheat is because of a lack of communication. I’m sure in her mind she wasn’t trying to hurt me. (Good) People don’t try to hurt each other, but it’s a side effect of other actions.

In the words of Jack’s Mannequin, “you need to swim” when things aren’t going your way. Stand up and say how you feel, don’t sell yourself short. Everyone has good things going for them, you just need to realize what it is about you that draws people in.

You can let everything destroy you. Eventually you rebuild and try to improve upon what you had. At least that what I did and those were my plans. In the end, the pain passed and the hunt began to be in love again.
