What to look for in a relationship?

My dad had always told me that the sole point of college was to teach you to ask “Why?”  I think that I have also come to the conclusion that college just asks you to question everything, to think about what priorities exist to you, who you are, and what you can live with.

I’ve learned to look at what I want and work towards that.  I’ve recently began looking at who I’m friends with, why I am friends with them, and what can I do to be better friends with those people.  It’s weird, because I’ve only recently become close with people I’ve been friends with for a while.

To me, you need to be good to everyone else as human beings.  Sure, there are people that you’re going to disagree with, be upset with, and fight with.  But I don’t think you can write any individual off.  Over the course of time, I think you will be surprised how much good is inside of people.

I’ve also look at what I want romantically.  To tell you the truth, I want someone to depend on, and someone to depend on me.  Someone where time moves too fast and too slow at the same time.  And most importantly- someone to laugh with, especially someone to just smile with together.

There’s also the whole debate about whether people are meant to be together, and even if there’s one person for everyone.  I personally believe that there’s probably about 10 people you are compatible with, each with different ways of why they are compatible.  You just need to keep trying after every failure.

You learn to evaluate what other people want as well, and can make plans based on that.  Maybe it’s just that people who think they are meant to be align more on what they want.  Maybe they are open communicators.  And to this I can only think one question: “Why do some work, and why do some fail?”
